Staying Positive at Work!
By Tammy Butler, Master CMB
You are in control of your happiness! While others may be able to trigger emotions that are negative through their
actions, you are the one who can choose how to accept and process that emotion. Positive/Negative, Happy/Mad,
the choice is up to you. Here are few tips to master being positive where you work!
It’s where your day starts!
Listen to music that motivates you.
Listen to inspirational books or messages.
Get to Work Early!
It gives you a chance to take
a deep breath before you have to
get started. You don’t feel as rushed
to jump into your day. Take the time
to get your office or your cubicle in the
“Zen zone” to help you become
more productive that day.
You do not need to answer emails
the second you receive them! Set aside
time during the day to answer your emails.
Use your breaks!
Get up from your chair, do some stretch-es, walk around, and get moving!
Even the best jobs have aspects that
make you groan. Just do it, and you’ll be
amazed at how good you feel
about getting it done!
Don’t become the company psychologist,
because that will take focus away from your
day, not to mention giving you other things to
worry about. DO offer to help others when
you can. It feels great to help others and adds to
your mental well-being.
Life is tough! Let’s just get that out there.
Instead of judging your co-workers, take
a moment to consider that you
probably don’t know what they
are going through in life.
No one is perfect and neither are
you. Listen, evaluate, and then make
a correction if the criticism is construc-
tive. If the criticism is not constructive,
throw it out of your mind and move on.
Smile, nod, and contribute when you have
something to contribute. Don’t get caught up in
the drama. Just do your job well and interact as
Stress will only make your mind function less effi-
ciently! Time-block your day and stick to that schedule
as much as possible. You’ll be surprised at how much
more you get done and how much more
positive you’ll feel.
Become the master of “going with the flow! ” This
industry is changing like wildfire now, and there are
plenty of opportunities to become negative. The
problem is that this negativity will make you loathe
working, and you - and only you - can
change that mindset!
It’s not tough, it just takes a little practice. Stay away from the office gossips that judge others and talk behind the backs of
others. It’s immature and non-productive, and, trust me, they will do the same to you! Hang out with those that are posi-
tive, and you’ll be surprised by how positive you become!
